Worship Songs for November 8

We're excited to share "City On Its' Knees" with our church this Sunday - it's a great reminder that we need to reach our cities and communities through prayer.  Everyone we meet needs prayer of some kind.  It's amazing when we ask someone, maybe a waiter at a restaurant, "How can I pray for you?", there is always a need and they are always receptive to it.  I challenge you to do it - next time you are out to eat and about to say the blessing over the food, ask your server how you can pray for them.  You will be encouraged by the result!  It's a simple way to "live a life of love".  May it be!

“City On Its’ Knees”

Jeff Richfield shares the following about how this song came about:

In the summer of 2000, after I had lost my business, I had found God in a new way. I was inspired to write a book about the cities of the earth kneeling in prayer, calling upon the Lord to send a great awakening of revival across our land. The book is called, "A City on its' Knees." The song came out of that title as I cried out to God in the woods out at our Camp Eagles Landing. The Lord breathed on it, and many people came to sing on the chorus, and help record it. The first time the song was performed live was in 2001 at our nation's capitol at the National Day of Prayer, DC! As the day came to an end the band played the song, and it began raining. The event host then saw a rainbow on the horizon and she declared, "Look, God really loves this song!" Then came 911, and as I looked back at the course of events that led to the formation of the song and book, I felt the Lord say to me, "See, Jeff, I foretold you of the events to take place, and am using this song”.

“Crown Him With Many Crowns”

This worshipful text is the combined effort of two distinguished Anglican clergymen, each of whom desired to write a hymn of exaltation to our suffering but now victorious Lord.
Matthew Bridges' version first appeared in 1851 with six stanzas. Twenty-three years later, Godfrey Thring wrote six additional stanzas, which appeared in his collection Hymns and Sacred Lyrics. The hymn's present forrn includes stanzas one, two, and four by Bridges and the third verse by Thring.

Each crown in this hymn text exalts Christ for some specific aspect of His person or ministry:
(1) Stanza one for His eternal Kingship;
(2) Stanza two for His love demonstrated in redemptive suffering;
(3) Stanza three for His victorious resurrection and ascension, and
(4) Stanza four as a member of the Triune Godhead ever worthy of worship and praise.

The tune, DIADERNATA (the Greek word for crowns), was composed especially for this text by George Elvey, a noted organist at St. George's Chapel in Windsor, England, where British royalty often attend.

We will glorify the King of kings
We will glorify the Lamb
We will glorify the Lord of lords
Who is the great I AM

Lord Jehovah reigns in majesty
We will bow before His throne
We will worship Him in righteousness
We will worship Him alone

He is Lord of all who live
He is Lord above the universe
All praise to Him we give

Hallelujah to the King of kings
Hallelujah to the Lamb
Hallelujah to the Lord of Lords
Who is the great I AM

“For All You’ve Done”

Reuben Morgan, on men worshipping:

"People are more passionate than ever," Morgan observes. "I think God's stirring the church. For the most part, churches are singing the same songs no matter where you go, which is pretty incredible. Even in countries that don't speak English, they're still singing the same songs."
As a strong male leader, Morgan is particularly interested in seeing the men of the church take more risks in their outward expressions of faith. "I think a really good model for men and worship is David," Morgan says. "Men can be a little more reserved when it comes to expressing their feelings and really being passionate. But I think there's health in a guy really learning how to do that in the right way. I think the Bible is clear on what are appropriate ways to express our love for God passionately. My personal feeling is that lifting our hands, shouting and all of that is a way of connecting with God. They're expressions, and they can be healthy in our growth."

From the everlasting
To the world we live
The Father’s only Son

You lived and You died
You rose again on high
You opened the way
For the world to live again

“All Because of Jesus”

Giver of every breath I breathe
Author of all eternity
Giver of every perfect thing
To You be the glory
Maker of Heaven and of Earth
No one can comprehend Your worth
King over all the universe
To You be the glory

And I am alive because I'm alive in You

It's all because of Jesus I'm alive
It's all because the blood of Jesus Christ
That covers me and raised this dead man's life
It's all because of Jesus I'm alive
I'm alive, I'm alive

“Jesus, What a Friend for Sinners”

J. Wilbur Chapman (1859-1918) was an American evangelist, revivalist and pastor. He wrote the words to the hymns "One Day", "Jesus! What A Friend for Sinners" (Our Great Saviour) and "'Tis Jesus".
Though J. Wilbur Chapman was not converted until years later, at the age of four he was often seen standing on his chair for a pulpit, acting out the role of preacher.
A Presbyterian, he had great success in four pastorates, but is best remembered as a powerful evangelist. Greatly influenced for Christ as a young man by a godly mother and a spiritual father, he was led to accept Christ by his Sunday school teacher and later found absolute assurance that he was a child of God through the personal counseling of Dwight L. Moody.
Why was he such a success as a pastor and leader? “His unusual power with men, his never-failing friendliness, his positive and comprehensive preaching, his extraordinary genius for organization, and the unprecedented results of his manifold labors,” are the reasons given by his biographer, Mr. Ford Ottman.

“Made Me Glad”

I will bless the Lord forever.
I will trust him at all times.
He has delivered me from all fear.
He has set my feet upon a rock.
I will not be moved and I’ll say of the Lord,
You are my shield, my strength, my portion,
deliverer, my shelter, strong tower,
my very present help in time of need.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
There’s none I desire beside you.
You have made me
glad and I’ll say of the Lord,
